We are a diverse United Methodist congregation located in Oak Park, Illinois. Our local members coming from all over the greater Chicago area.
St. John’s is part of the United Methodist Church, a global community of churches connected by faith and service. United Methodists strive to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” For more on what we believe, click here.
Our local church is driven by our Core Values: praise, seek, love, and order. We praise God through worship, scripture, and study. We seek the welfare of our communities. We love God and our neighbors. We order our house through lay leadership committees.
At its founding, St. John’s was affiliated with the Evangelical United Brethren Church. The building, located on the corner of Ontario Street and Marion Street in Oak Park, was built in 1916.
In the mid-20th century, the United Brethren and the Methodist denominations merged and formed the United Methodist Church.
In 1985, a Filipino-American congregation merged with St. John’s to form the current makeup of the church.
WHAT TO EXPECT ON SUNDAY
Worship Service: Our weekly Sunday service starts 11 a.m. Our worship style is blended; traditional and liturgical practices are combined with contemporary elements.
Dress Code: As for dress code, we don’t have one. Some wear their Sunday best, while others dress casually.
Communion: We have communion on the first Sunday of each month. We practice open communion, meaning all are invited to receive it.
After Worship: All are invited to attend Sunday School classes, which start at 12:15 p.m. We currently have three levels of Sunday School: All Children’s Sunday School (toddlers to 7th grade), Youth Sunday School (8th grade to college), and Adult Bible Study. We also have a fellowship lunch that starts 1 p.m.
